Hey everyone,

I have upgraded my display to a Pro Display XDR, which I'm using with my 2020 13 Inch M1 MBP in clamshell mode.

With this upgrade, I was hoping that I would be able to plug only the cable coming from the XDR to my MBP and plug in my Logi Brio webcam and my UAD Apollo Solo audio interface to the ports in the back of the XDR. This was especially my wish as it makes switching between my work and personal laptop as easy as replugging the XDR cable.

However, I found out to my surprise that the display is only supplying Thunderbolt 3 to my Logi Brio webcam. The UAD Apollo Solo only gets USB 2 speed and therefore doesn't work as it powers only through Thunderbolt 3. I figured that my M1 would support DSC and therefore leave enough bandwidth for all these devices to be running through Thunderbolt 3.

I did research and came upon this video online:

But I was hoping that the MacRumors community might have a better answer for me.

Thank you all for your attention!

I'm not an expert but I'm interested in related topics recently...

1. I guess your UAD Apollo Solo is "Apollo Solo" but not "Apollo Solo USB". And according to the introduction, "Apollo Solo" supports Thunderbolt 3, not USB 3.
2. According to the introduction of Pro Display XDR, It seems that three USB-C ports doesn't support Thunderbolt 3, but USB 3. And I'm afraid a USB 3(USB-C) port can only support USB devices, not Thunderbolt 3 devices.

Correct me if anything wrong. Thx.

Hey there, I have completely missed that the ports behind the Pro Display weren't all Thunderbolt 3. Thank you for pointing that out.

Seems like the only way to go would be to get a TB3 or TB4 hub. Connect it to the MBPs charging port, and connect the XDR to the hub. Just like in the video posted.

Thanks again!
