Hi, I got into a situation where I need advice which of these idols to choose:

MacBook Pro 13" M1 8core 8GB 512GB
MacBook Pro 13" M2 8core CPU 10core GPU 8GB, 256GB
MacBook Air 13" M1 8core 16GB 256GB
MacBook Air 13" M2 8core CPU 8core GPU 16GB 256GB

Usage:

- adobe photoshop
- adobe illustrator,
- visual studio code
- web design, product design,...

My data is stored on a Synology NAS, which I access via webdav. So I don't need a big HDD in mac.

I know there are more powerful machines, but if it should be between these four, which one?
Thank you.

It is logical that a newer chip, plus maximum ram memory should be the best.
I wanted to verify the claim that AIR 16GB is more suitable than PRO 8GB.
Although some claim that M1 is a better choice than M2.

I think you are confusing issues… no one claims the M1 chip is better than the M2 chip, except maybe in cases of thermal throttling…but that’s rare in real world use and so I’d call that bogus. It IS true amongst the low end 256 gb storage machines the first versions had faster read writes than the second versions because of the difference between two parallel 128 card (older) versus one 256 card. But both are speed demons compare to your Synology.

So yes given your usage I’d go for more ram and the M2. So the newer air over an older pro. No question.

Newer chip is better than older, but not by much. More RAM is more important than newer chip.
