Hi,
this is off topic, and some may think it is a serioud\slystrange idea, but: in the world of target shooting noise from ammunition discharge is a non trivial issue. Yes, people wear ear protection but most of it sucks. So called “electronic” (ANC) is used by a few; others use a serial system with padded cans over the ears and a second in-line filter (usually passive) in the ear canal itself.
so I have the Pro-Max and have used them for noise attenuation while snow blowing. The basic construction doesn’t do much, but with the ANC it is definitely helpful knocking down about 24db of a 100 db (C- weighted) signal. If I could get another 6-12 db of attenuation I could better preserve my hearing for the important things in life like music and conversation.
my question is whether the Pro Max can be my first line of defence and an AirPod Pro the second, in line attenuator. The home run would be two serial ANC attenuations. I believe there would not be phase conflict the devices will “hear” incoming signal with a very slight time lag.

I have the Pro Max, lost my Airpod Pros but would be willing to buy another set.

I’ve tried it, you’ll get better ANC but its not comfortable.

don't use ANC headsets for shooting.
ANC is designed for low consistent sounds, not loud and quick sounds like gunfire

there are shooting headsets, but they block all sounds using "traditional methods" , and then use microphones to "pipe in" sound to speakers located inside the ear muff so you're able to hear "though the muffs". Since they are controlling the sound inside the muff electronically, they are able to cut out loud noises before they are replayed
so they use "broad and dumb" passive filtering to kill all the sound, and "focused and smart" electronics to add back in what you want to hear.

Please tell me the purpose is to listen to music while doing this.

For pure noise attenuation nothing beats some quality earplugs.
As a musician this is a must for me (albeit too late to undo the serious damage I have done in my youth).
There are quality earplugs with a flat(ish) reduction response across the whole sound spectrum, which ensure that while the sound is reduced, the quality of it is not compromised too badly.
