iPhone Pro Max - portait mode not working on objects

Are the last three portrait modes working on objects for anyone?
I just get popups in the camera app to get closer, farer away, or place object in the circle, but the object gets never really recognized.

Just tried it with my vape held out in my hand and works.

Ok just tried using the last three modes and didn’t work. I took that picture as a normal portrait picture and edited it to those other modes.
