I was so excited to pick up an iPad Pro 10.5 refurb, especially for the promotion.

But...I can barely notice it, like at all. I even checked accessibility if it was turned off.

is anyone else underwhelmed?

Not at all. When I went from my iPad Air 2 to the 10.5 inch Pro, I could absolutely tell a difference. Now I'm on the 11 inch Pro and it's just as good.

I’m the same a you OP, I had a 9.7 pro for years and thought when I upgraded it would look out of this world. But it doesn’t in the least. I mean I can notice things are smoother but it’s not crazy like everyone says. Furthermore to be honest a screen at 60hz should look extremely fluid but they don’t. Maybe the OS's are programmed to operate at 30fps, but I digress

ProMotion is one of my favorite additions to the iPad - is was a drastic improvement for me and one that I really miss using the iPhone - feels so wonderful - especially when drawing with the pencil, but scrolling feels just perfect in a way it doesnt on other displays

I noticed it the most scrolling in Safari, anything with motion (moving from home screens, scrolling a graphics heavy page). Mostly I notice it with the Apple Pencil. That’s night and day difference between an iPad without. IPad Pro with an Apple Pencil with promotion feels almost as natural and fluid as pen to paper.

In all honesty though, if you can’t tell the difference, I’d highly recommend trying items at the store before buying. Companies do a GREAT job of hyping up “features” that aren’t really all that spectacular. This may just be one of those for you. Apple sure does a great job selling their “features” heh.

Don’t get me wrong, i love the ipad, but pro motion was a bit of a disappointment, for me personally.

Noticeable for me and no doubt the future of tech.

LTPO will make things even better next year

Between my OG iPad Air and iPhone 11, when I got my 12.9 pro, I definitely noticed the major advantages of the Pro Motion display.

This must be a personal thing with each person. Like how some people get headaches and eye strain from CRT screens and others didn’t

I notice a clear difference, and the bigger the screen the worse it is. 60hz is fine on a phone or mini, but 11pro and 12.9 pro it is a big big diference to my eyes. You can even disable and re-enable it in settings to see the diference, and on the 11pro its big.

It is not a must have...like you can easily live with out it. Hyperbole nowadays about tech is funny to me. Food and shelter is a must have. Everything else is gravy as they say.

I have had every ipad since ipad 4, and I love this feature. You our own eyes and experiences may vary though.

It's not a life changing difference but high refresh rate monitors are nice for sure. Once you get used to it when you go back to a 60hz iPad you will definitely notice how the animations and scrolling are relatively choppy. You get used to it pretty fast though and stop noticing it. I think the larger the display the larger the difference too. I have a 27" 144hz display and the difference between that and a 60hz display is massive.

I dunno about being disappointed personally - when I was in the market for an iPad I had heard about the difference between the pro and standard displays so I went to an Apple store to compare. The difference was noticeable enough that I concluded there was value added, and taken with other added value features I went with a pro model.

If one were to test me today I am certain that I could immediately determine if the limit frame rate option is turned on simply by doing a 4 finger screen pinch to task tray.

i have an iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro 10.5 and I haven’t seen a difference in all the years I had them both but then again I also have HDR enabled on Netflix and I don’t notice it on my iPhone XS Max either 😅

As others have noted, scrolling in Safari is a good way to see it, although you may not notice it at first. With it, I can comfortably read long pages of text where I am kind of continuously scrolling with my thumb as I read. Without it, the text is too jittery for me to do this for very long.

The Apple Pencil also feels much smoother with it, although again, you might not notice the difference immediately.

I have an iPad Pro 11 and I tried turning it off to see if I noticed the difference. I found it quite noticeable, both in scrolling in Safari and closing apps with a swipe up from the bottom. In both cases it seemed jittery and reminded me of “shaky cam” in the movies. I was actually surprised that it was so noticeable.

I just went from a gen 1 12.9 to a new 2020 model. I havent noticed a difference to be honest except in the apple pencil. It was amazing before but zero lag now. Incredible.

Use it for a few days and then use a 60 Hz iPad. If you're like me it will look like utter and complete unusable garbage. Recently picked up an Air 3 and was horrified by how choppy the animations are.

I go back and forth from my iPad to helping my kids with their iPad routinely and I forget to even see if I notice a difference: I don't
