Does anyone know of a white paper or Apple link that discusses how the Mac Pro 7.1 would utilize a Pro Vega 2 MPX with a Pro Vega 2 Duo MPX within one computer?

I doubt you can use the Infinity Fabric Link between the cards as they seem to be in a different position on the card. (the mono has it closer to the back of the MP7,1.

Apple's pictures:
the mono:

the duo:

So that alone will prevent you from linking the cards.

Thanks. I agree. I am wondering how the 7.1 will access the GPUs during normal operation. Will it first access the Vega Duo Card and then the Single if necessary... or vice-versa. Will there be a GPU bottleneck if you have both types of cards in the machine? Will this be related to the type of application being run? Can you set which card is primary...?

I only have a single duo card in our MP7,1s. So no idea how you deal with having diffrerent MPX modules in a single mac.

It might not be a supported config.

you can install one or two of each module:

Also 2 duo cards don't seem to connect together with a link anyway, they have a "jumper" to connect internally.
(Anybody own a production double duo to verify what's in there?)

I think you are correct in that the Pro Vega Duo and Pro Vega Single can't be connected. Would be nice to know how the 7.1 would handle both as you can put them both in the computer at the same time.

Each will take an MPX slot.

I tested my Pro Vega 2 Duo with an additional W5700x MPX module which worked perfectly!

All three GPUs were active during fcpx exports. However, in most of my tests, the additional MPX module did not significantly speed up my workflow (hoping to get the by 9to5mac implied HEVC hardware acceleration that should provide significantly improved 10bit HEVC to Prores and Prores to HEVC processing, and direct fcpx 10bit HEVC editing).

I also installed an Afterburner card (instead of the W5700x) since Apple implies that the AB improves exporting from ProRes; I found that AB only makes sense in case of ProRes Raw workflows, not in my ‘normal Prores’ workflow.

So now I am happily editing with the Pro Vega II duo, in ProRes, importing & transcoding the 10bit HEVC footage during lunch (or overnight in case of hrs of material). And waiting for Apple to release a 10bit HEVC hardware acceleration enabled MPX unit...
