Hello Fellow Mac Enthusiast,

I'm just looking for a little advice from the community. I work mostly in wedding vedeography running FCP S2, and Motion 3, dabbling a little here and there with other projects. All of which is not my main source of income, just side work My current setup is 2.16GHZ MBP running an Alum. 23" cinema display. I'm debating whether or not to sell my MBP, and get a Mac Pro, or keeping the MBP, and getting a new 20" iMac, then mounting the 23" display above the iMac. I've been reading a lot of negative stuff about the new iMac, but my limited experiance with it at the store, has only increased my want for one. Just looking for a little input, and thanks in advance for the help.

Well, in this forum, you'll find people who bought the iMac, so we're bound to be a bit biased. I was in the exact same boat as you (with a second smaller display though) I sold my 2.16 MBP and this is infinately better. Get the 24" 2.8 model and as much RAM (third party) as you can afford. It's a grand cheaper than a tower with monitor and more elegant. Screen is amazing and glare does bother me only on a good fade out. so I'll stop using them :)

If you buy quick, you can get the educational/govt discount and a free iPod to sell or give away. And the free printer too. If you get the 24", you might be able to sell your cinema display. I haven't decided if I need a second 'bin' monitor or not. Depends upon your working style. I did pick up a Bella keyboard though.

I appreciate the reply, if I sold the MBP, I could afford a 2.66 Mac Pro, which I would much prefer. That's why it's an issue of staying with the MBP, and a 20" iMac. I can't seem to get more then $1500 for the MBP, and am not willing to go any lower therefore the 20" is the only thing I can afford. Again thanks for the input.

i was looking to buy either an imac or macbook, but after having a look at the displays in the apple store, i honestly don't like the glossy at all. the display is basically a mirror. it's horrible. i don't get why apple couldn't just have the option for a matte display...

Since you are considering selling your MBP it doesn't seem like you are that dependent on being portable?
Then by all means sell it and get the Mac Pro if that's what you would prefer. Since you say you are a video pro, you will most likely benefit a lot from the Mac Pro since it's a lot faster than the iMac. It will most likely make you work much more efficient and it will last you for a pretty a long time.
