Nah, don't think I'm waiting for Core2Duo. It might come next week just like it might come next year...
Remember what Madonna said? That "Life goes by so slowly for the ones who wait" :D
Not counting that for me, a common user, 64 bit wouldn't change a thing.

So... I will be mostly using it for HOME Video Editing, Storing Pictures, Listening to Music, Web (mail, forums, etc...) and Making college Presentations. Gaming? Maybe some Warcraft III, but I'm no hard gamer... So I think the MBP is ok for me. 17'' all the way: I don't like small things :p

But there's a problem... I'm a Mac virgin. So I have some (stupid) questions...

*Will it be able to run OSX Leopard fine when it comes out?
*It's my first laptop computer, so I might retire my Windows Desktop and at night I might use this MBP a lot. Question is: when using it for hours in my house, is it better to remove the battery and just plug in the adapter? Or leave both on? The common sense tells me to remove the batt and use the wall adapter, but Apple usually "thinks different" so I'm open to suggestions.
*Does presentations made with iWork open in MS Powerpoint (for college) , even with all those effects that Apple's iWork page mention? I'm afraid it might be too much for the poor powerpoint
*For the owners: how cool is it? Just for info...
*How do people take pictures of the screen (when showing their coconut battery results, for example)?
*I've noticed Apple computers don't use Audio Cards. Why? I think my PC has a creative audio card... don't apple computers need one?
*Is the processor removable or permanent? If removable, how easy it is to remove and replace it?

I'm mostly excited because of the design (looks really cool) and of iLife. Can't wait to start working on it ^^. Actually, so many things to find out that I will be crazy when it arrives! Wanna try out Safari, iLife, iWork...... Put that coconut battery thing in it... LoL...

:D

MacBook Pro will certainly do the trick! My friend just got one and has been working on a soundtrack in Logic Pro for an indie film. Loves it, and even better he was a PC convert. The only down side is the hard drive runs at 5400rpm's, instead of 7200rpm's in which most of our desktop machine hard drives run at. Faster hard drives are better for audio and video productions.

It will run Leopard fine. Most certainly the next OS after Leopard as well.

You can leave the battery in when you are home. It won't overcharge it or wear it out or anything like that. But yeah, if you can use the power supply.

Congrats! I'm still waiting a week or two more for Merom MBPs, but if that doesn't happen I'll either get a low-end MBP or a MacPro...

Yes, fabulously.

When using it for hours in my house, is it better to remove the battery and just plug in the adapter?
Leave it how it is, so you always have a perfectly charged battery.

Does presentations made with iWork open in MS Powerpoint (for college) , even with all those effects that Apple's iWork page mention? Yes, I am pretty sure.

*For the owners: how cool is it?
Super cool. You will be the envy of everyone. :D

CMD (apple key)+SHIFT+4 or CMD+SHIFT+3

I've noticed Apple computers don't use Audio Cards. Why? I think my PC has a creative audio card... don't apple computers need one?
Its all built in, baby.

Is the processor removable or permanent? If removable, how easy it is to remove and replace it?
For a normal end user, it is not replaceable, which makes no huge difference IMO.

:D

for the battery question: you should be fine as long as you calibrate the battery regularly....

I.E. fully discharge the battery and recharge again.

Hmmm...
What replaces Alt + F4 and Alt + Tab in a mac, respectively. I use both these comands a lot...

Alt + F4

God I haven't used that in forever. When people used to ask how to do certain things in TSN (does anybody remember that?) I would tell them Alt + F4, very fun.

It's Cmd+ Tab and Cmd+W. I envy you.:)

Other than this Mac Mini I'm on now, I haven't tried to use either of those combinations in 10 years on a Mac...

Edit: not only did two others beat me, but I was wrong on one!

I just tried the other; CMD + Tab works perfectly for switching apps.

Hehe, beat me to it :)

No, Apple+Q quits the entire application. There's no command for that in Windows. Alt+F4 quits a windows, which is what Apple+W does.;)

Din idiot!:p (jeg laver sjov)

Yup, 32-bit to the bone.

Not exactly.. intel uses the emt64 instructions so it would be able to use some things 64 bit...

Leopard will run fine with that said

That's almost true (except for the last remark;) ) It has everything to do with how Apple and Windows differ. Apple sees several Safari windows as one App, whilst Windows sees it as several. So you could postulate that my directions are correct, all depends on perspective.
