So I updated the iPad, but whenever I sync now, I get the message

26f7ba6b.jpg

I've restored the iPad, restarted iTunes, restarted the computer, but apparently there is something squiffy, and I can't figure it out.

Anyone help? The iPad works fine, with all my apps on there, in their folders, etc, so I can't see anything that shouts out.

Many thanks

ALL RESOLVED. THANKS FORMFOLKS WHO CONTRIBUTED

Do you have any restrictions on your iPad? I found a thread in the Apple Support Forums that seems to include a resolution for a similar error message:

I recently got the error message iTunes cannot sync apps to iPad "ipadName" because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined. I had already upgrade the iPad to iOS 5.0 several weeks ago and had no issues. I had also sync'f many many times in the past with no issues.

I was able to sync on Sunday and then "All of a sudden", I could not sync on Monday. Tried closing out all my apps on the iPad, that didn't help. Tried restarted my desktop and the iPad and then sync, that didn't help. Tried logging into my AppleID account via iTunes and iPad to see if that would clear up anything in the background, that didn't help. I also couldn't really find anything on the web that helped.

Come Monday, I decided to just delete the apps from iPad manually and go about it that way. When I tried to delete the app, it did not give me the (x) option to delete. Weird? Did a quick search online and someone suggested that the Restriction to delete apps was OFF. DING, DING, that was it. Checked my settings and sure nough, I had made that change late on Sunday. Enabled the ability to delte my apps and was able to delete my apps. Then I thought, would this also fix my sync issue?

Crossed my fingers and attempted to sync my iPad in iTunes and like Emeril Says "Bam"! I was able to sync my iPad once again without having to reset my iPad, etc.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. Restrictions were already set to enable. I might have to try it just as a brand new iPad, and resync everything, and see how that goes.

ITunes seems to spin it's little wheel when plugged in, so maybe an iTunes issue? Any idea how to give iTunes a kick in the pants?

Just do it OTA...I've already updated 2 iPhones and 1 iPad that way...works flawlessly...itunes has always been a mess....glad to not have to use it for anything but music now!

Are you syncing via USB or wifi? I get this error quite frequently when syncing via wifi. Switching to USB seems to make everything fine (for a while).

@gentlefury

It was done over USB originally.

The update is done now. Saying 5.0.1. I've already done a full erase, etc, in restore, but either from a backup, or as a new device, it still does it. iTunes syncs the apps onto the device without issue. It is only when I come to sync again I get the problem. All the apps are working, and I'm typing this out on the iPad. It's annoying me.

I've a feeling that maybe a file corrupted in iTunes, and that maybe what the issue is, maybe? Can I move the XML file elsewhere, and then reopen iTunes to make a new one? Reckon that would help?

Well, seems to be sorted now. Was hanging up when trying to back up to iTunes. Put the backup through to iCloud, and bypassed that step. After that, the same problem with "apps not determined". So, manually deleted all the apps from the device, thinking if something is corrupted there, maybe having no apps will sort it. It did. Removed all apps and synced. No bother. Added a few to try, and no bother. So added all the apps back to what it was, and it's been fine the last 20 minutes.

So presumably there is something either on iTunes, or the iPad that was corrupted and needed all apps to be removed before it would fix itself, or repopulate.

Thanks for folks help.
