Problem: Apple TV Doesn't display some movies

So, I took all my DVDs (over 300) ripped them and used handbrake to get them into Itunes and now stream over Apple TV.

The system works great except I have several (maybe 10) movies that do not show up on Apple TV. They are in itunes, they play perfectly well in itunes, the check box is checked, but they are nowhere to be found on my Apple TV list of shared movies.

Any ideas on why this might be and what the solution is?

You may have to alter the size and framerate in Handbrake before you convert - so that files fit in with apple tv specs.

I had the same problem when i first ripped my collection. like the previous poster said, you may need to alter the frame rate or size to fit the Apple TV specs. just use the universal preset in handbrake and you should be fine.

I used the Apple TV preset. Shouldn't that cover all my bases?

However, let's say i accidentally didn't use the Apple TV preset on a couple of movies. Is there anyway to fix the file, short of reconverting it?

No, you have to start again.

The Handbrake Apple TV preset sometimes doesn't always work properly.

I normally have the same problem of the film not showing in Apple TV but showing everywhere else when I fail to manually modify the size of the output file 1280x720 AND a frame rate of 24 fps. I change all this in Handbrake or Visualhub which are the two programmes I have used to convert all my video.

When you load a film to be converted its good housekeeping to check this before you start as I know how frustrating it is to wait 4 - 5 hours for a film to convert to then find it doesn't work.

Your best bet is to re-rerip the files and use the Apple TV preset. That will ensure optimum picture quality. You do have the DVDs right?

Other options are:

1) Go to the advanced menu in iTunes and select "Create AppleTV version"
2) Get visualhub. It's the best software I know for this stuff.
