So

After trying out imac fan control, istat and smcfan control, something went wrong somewhere.

I normally use clean my mac software for uninstalling all my apps, but after trying out all the fan control apps i purchased istat and installed. Now however, istat displays a default fan speeds of 1300 1300 1300, which is wrong, its something like 1100 1000 1000.

I have deleted everything from the apps from library / application support, caches, and preferences.

But istat still shows 1300 1300 1300 as the lowest possible speed.

I have tried doing a smc reset, no help.

Also when trying to change the fan speed in istat to say 1600 1600 1600, the fans speed up for a second, then goes down to 1300 1300 1300. SO there must be something overriding istat.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Why are you playing around with the fans anyway. ?

The most important thing is a cool ambient temperature - about 20 - 22 degrees is best.

Imacs get hot but the fan speeds set by apple are in place so the various components don't cook.

The cpus are rated at about 80 c, the gpu is about 90 and the hdd is 60

longevity. simple as that.

but your answer didnt quite help me

i tried these smc things too , annoying to say the least , apple did build the iMac's so they dont overcook , so there is no need to turn up the fans , and the hope for a longer life is not relevant really , you may gain a couple days if you are lucky

so deinstall everything you ever had installed in terms of fan controllers and i mean everything !!! not only the app itself , then reset smc and your fans should be back to normal

if not then you might not have uninstalled every bit of these fan controllers or messed around to much
