I’m having issues with a 3rd gen 12.9 iPad Pro and emailing safari pages when I have other apps open , is this a known issue ? I have to quit the other apps , very irritating ?

Could it be ram related ?

If so I’m guessing the problem disappears with the 8-16 gig m1 models ?

I’m not sure I follow. Are you sending links to that page via email or making annotations and then sending that?

What exactly are your problems that you’re experiencing?

to add to @ericwn : or are you referring to full webpage screen shots? Can you reference an example page? which version of iPadOS?

If the problem is fixed by quitting other apps, then yes, it's more than likely RAM related.

Personally, I was having RAM related issues on my 2017 iPad Pro (4GB RAM): webpages and apps crashing, Safari screenshot not showing Full Page option, active/foreground apps reloading while using side-by-side, Files app showing blank. I was doing a hard reset like 2-3x a week so it would work properly again.

My 2021 12.9 1TB works so much better. Granted, I'm still running iOS 14. Based on my experience with iOS 15 beta (7th gen) and official (mini 6), 15 appears to be more RAM-hungry compared to 14. iOS 15 + 3-4GB RAM is still OK for single focus. Not so much anymore for multitasking. Honestly, for me, iOS 12 was the last time 4GB worked well without tons of reloads. Of course, iPadOS 13+ brought a lot of features to the table. For me, the most useful being full desktop Safari (more or less).

Thanks for confirming what I thought , guess I’ll go for a new iPad soon with the most ram available

I don't think it's worth spending $1799+ on a 1TB M1 iPad 12.9 if you just want max RAM and don't actually need the storage. I believe the 8GB on 128-512GB configs is already pretty decent and a big improvement over the 4GB on most 2018 Pros.

my parents use a 2018 12.9 iPP/iPadOS 15 and frankly they “splitview” the heck out of it - Safari running side to Apple Mail, dragging pictures over, etc. and what-else in the background e.g. Apple Music - while getting a device with better technical features is of course a valid choice, I still do not understand what the problem of the OP is? What does Usage tell about memory use on said iPP?

I'm not the OP but on the 4GB RAM iPads, mine’s usually at 1-5% free (~30-140 MB).

On the 16GB RAM iPads, it’s usually at 50% free (7+ GB) although there are times when I've used more RAM.

The Mini-LED display on the 2021 Pro initially gave me migraines so I got a refurb 2018 12.9 1TB (6GB) and put both through their paces within the return period.

Common running apps
Safari (iirc around 80 tabs on 2018, 100+ tabs on 2021)
GoodReader
Excel
Messages
Mail
Notes
Files

Additional apps on 2021
YouTube
Netflix
Disney+

I guess I was able to adapt to the Mini-LED since it no longer gave me migraines. Hence, I ended up keeping the 2021. To me, the 0.8 MB free on 2018 iPP+iOS 14 with the above workload didn't bode well for 3+ years of smooth operation.
