I just downloaded jdk-8u31-macosx-x64.dmg myself.
It correctly opens.

Now I wonder how you install such software.
I double click on the .dmg in Finder .....
;JOOP!

----------

P.S.: check that your download of jdk-8u31-macosx-x64.dmg has
the size of 219 328 069 !
Otherwise you did not download it as binary.
;JOOP!

If you have checksum error then the file is corrupt. Disabling checksum is pointless and won't make your file be good again. Try downloading them from another source or from another computer.

It's easy for the file to be corrupt but the file size to match. What is your checksum? I'm not sure how to check on OS X but on RHEL I just use md5sum from the command line.

I tried from another source, and it worked.. Thank you

Interesting.

What was that other source in stead of Oracle?
I always download from:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
and
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/documentation/jdk8-doc-downloads-2133158.html

Other question: what tool or program did you use to download?

I successfully download by Internet Explorer (past) and FireFox (present).
If you might download by FTP beware! In non-binary mode you get errors
like yours.
;JOOP!

I used chrome and downloaded from below link

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Developer-Tools/Java-SE-Development-Kit-JDK.shtml

like i said before from oracle or from jdk.java sites giving me checksum error
