Problem installing Boot Camp on 2012 Mac Pro

I am trying to install Windows 7 (64-bit) onto my Mid-2012 Mac Pro using Boot Camp . Not having used Boot Camp before, I carefully followed all the tutorials and got Windows to boot successfully. However when I try to install the driver pack I get the error "This version of Boot Camp is not intended for this computer model."

Thinking it might be a problem with installing too-recent drivers on an older machine, I tried several driver packs but always got the same result. Can someone please explain?

Details: Mac Pro Mid-2012, Xeon 6-core @ 3.33 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Yosemite 10.10.5
Boot Camp 5.1.4 (2015)
Drivers tried: 5.1.5769, 5.1.5722, 4.0.4326
Windows 7 64-bit

A bit of confusion with your question above: Did you mean to say that your Mac is a Mid 2010 Mac Pro not a Mac Pro Mid 2012? Anyway check the following Apple Table to see which version of Boot Camp drivers that are needed.

It's a Mac Pro (Mid 2012). I re-checked the compatibility tables (I'd seen them before but thought maybe I'd missed one) but the Mac Pro entries don't address anything later than 2010. Does this mean I can't run Win 7 at all? Doesn't sound right.

Yeah, that is strange that they do no list your Mid 2012 Mac Pro. Mactracker clearly lists your machine and its specs. Unfortunately, it does not say anything about what version of Boot Camp to use.

You didn't mention which version of macOS you're running as that also determines which version of Boot Camp to use.

OK, reading the Apple instructions and compatibility tables further, it appears that your Mac Pro Mid 2012 can not run Windows 7. It looks like you will need either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. That's probably why you're getting the Boot Camp error. I do not recommend running 8.1. Use Windows 10.
