Problem loading software

Hi,
I'm new here. I'm also new to Mac ownership. The site seems very informative so I thought I'd toss up my issue and see if anyone knows a fix.

I run Boot Camp and I'm not having any success loading software from the DVD drive into my XP partition. I've tried to load programs like Encarta, Bookshelf and Streets and Trips. I put in the CD, I can hear it trying to read the contents two or three times then it just ejects my CD. I won't engage the setup wizard. I've tried the "Add/Remove" programs feature and also tried to start it directly from "Run". I've gone through several sections on this site and haven't seen this problem yet.

If you have any ideas I'd be happy to try them.

Are you sure that the CD/DVD media that you are trying to use is not damaged? A good way to test this is to boot into Mac OS X and see if you can mount the disk. If you can, then it is obviously a Windows-only problem. However, I don't think that Boot Camp modifies anything dealing with the DVD drive in XP so your problem would likely be unique to XP instead of related to running XP on Mac hardware.

If you can't then either the media is damaged or the disk drive is not working correctly (though this is unlikely since it sounds like you just installed XP using the drive). Try inserting a disk into the drive that you know is not damaged (i.e. it is accessible on a different machine) and see what happens. Come back when you've tried this stuff.

I don't have trouble running the same disks on other computers.
They don't like to open up in Mac OS X either. The drive will operate some cd's and dvd's in both Mac and Windows. (Movies, homemade disks of photos, programs, etc...). The ones it doesn't seem to like are the ones with an auto start the tries to open an install wizard right away. They cycle two or three times then the drive spits out the disk in both Windows and OS X without recognizing the program files on the disk.

I have no idea what the problem is then. You're saying that you drive selectively accepts/rejects discs? In other words, it takes some disks perfectly fine but for some reason these particular disks get rejected....by both Windows and OSX?? That's awfully weird!

What kind of computer is it? Slot load or tray load? Are they non-standard sized disks?

Slot load and they are standard disks, most Microsoft issue.
