Hi all,
Recently I have had to send my MacBook in for repair, as a result of cracked palm rests, following this was a fan failure which fixed itself after 5 days and now worst of all my HDD has completely failed.
When the MacBook is turned on 5 hard clunks can be heard followed by the HDD spinning down. It cannot be found in disc utility from the OS X install CD either, so i am guessing it is a completely dead drive.
Other problems that were too minor for me to bother with included things like the screen flickering when a solid colour is displayed and the caps lock & num lock keys flickering when not using the keyboard or track pad for a certain period of time.
The reason for these problems not being bought to Apples attention was purely as i am in the middle of my 6th from AS and A2 studies, so no time is a good time to send away my only Mac.
When the fan failed I e-mailed Steve Jobs directly, receiving a call back from an apple employee offering it to be repaired even though it was a week out or warranty, I later had to cancel this as the problem fixed itself. So i now have a direct link to this employee, and have left answer phone messages for her to contact me within the next 24 hours.
I was wondering if anyone could input on what they feel could happen as a result of all these problems, even though it is now a week and 4 days out of warranty? They have previously offered help out of warranty so this gives me hope.
If they refuse to help me at all, I was wondering which HDD would be best for me to replace the existing 80GB with. I am in the UK and would like 100-120GB at either 5400rpm or 7200rpm. The main question is which manufacturer do I choose? I have had 2 Seagates fail on me, this being one of them, so have lost trust in this brand.
I do find it strange I am having to type this on a 4 year old Dell Inspiron 1150, which has been working perfectly from day one as it has worked its way through many family members having it as their main computer.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thank you,
Mike
