Problem migrating on OSX 10.10 Yosemite

Hey.

I just finished migrating info from an external HD and I have noticed some irregularities.


- Two download folders on the dock. Deleted one without any problems.

- When I tried to download something to my downloads folder I got an error saying "You do not have permissions to..."

First off, why would I have two folders after migration - I clicked the box to just bring in the data and not the user. I'm assuming it's related to the other issue that I am having.

I'd appreciate any assistance.

How and when did you migrate?

If you already made an account then afterward imported into that same account, it can cause the issues you are seeing.

- using Migration assistant and a external hard drive. The back up was from the same OSX but from a different machine (I had to return one a few days earlier)

When

-the back up was from earlier in the week. I migrated last night and immediacy noticed two folders in the doc.

Further evidence

- I cannot find "username" user on the machine. I can only find "username1". During migration I'm pretty sure that I checked the box NOT to import the user from the backup.

PS: I'm newer to Mac. I'm also super OCD about unnecessary files, users etc. I greatly appreciate anything you guys can share.

I didnt click the box that asks if you want to import the user account so that's why I was so confused. It draws your attention to it when you have the same user name.

I've actually done this a few times in the last few weeks and I've not had this problem before.

Ideally you would do it during the initial system setup routine when asked about importing data.

The problem with doing it later is it causes permissions issues related to the accounts user ID number.

It would not recognize the data on the drive. I assumed it was because it was shipped with Maverick and the data had been back up on Yosemite.

Thanks. I always do it later. I'll have to remember that. Odd I've never had the problem until Mavericks. That one was a royal mess.

For Yosemite I dragged and dropped as it was a fresh install. So no issues.
