Selected new iPhone to sync to BTinternet mail account (pop3) used for years in Outlook. iPhone connected to 'Wireless home Net' (after input of wep key) All seemed fine .. and indeed HTML e-mails downloaded immediately on comletion.

Have yet to be able to 'send' e-mail however .. always with message 'unable to connect to mail Server'.

Properties show correct mail setting for BTInternet (mail.btinternet.com) ... ??

iPhone has worked flawlessly in all other respects so far ... Feel sure I must have missed something therefore.

Has anyone else had this e-mail sending difficulty ????:confused:

Your email service may require authentication to accept sent mail, or simply may not accept it at all unless you are using yourr "home" connection. They do this to protect against being used for spamming.

If you have one of the former, simply add your email password to your iPhone mail settings for outgoing mail. If you have one of the latter, as I did, you will need to (a) switch to O2's mail server when sending not from your "home" connection, or (b) change email providers to one that allows you to send email with authentication.

I have my current password (as used on home PC) set in iPhone 'incoming mail password' and now 'outgoing mail password' ... Still only get 'incoming mail ??? ... and also, I am just connected by WiFi (as is my PC ) to the same home connection !?

Can I set O2 server just in iPhone so that PC is as orig set and iPhone has O2 ??
(so that I can send mail from elsewhere in home on iPhone)

What are the O2 settings ? (do I use the PC password still ??) .. will this be coverred by my O2 contract without charge ?

Thanks ..

Sending email

Yep, I had same problem... I turned PUSH off and email sends again now. Give it a try. Good luck!
