I have a M1 Max Mac Studio with a Studio Display. After I update to the Sonoma Beta I get a notification that the Studio Display needs its firmware updated. Software Update downloads a 726mb update file and restarts the computer. However, once in the Finder again it seems the update hasn't been applied and I get the same notification that the firmware needs to be updated and sure enough the firmware update shows as available in System Preferences. How do I fix this?

I ended up with the dreaded support.apple.com/displays/restore message. Count your blessings. This was fixed by adding an HDMI monitor to see what was going on, and, in the end, powering both Studio Monitor and Mac Studio off completely, unplugging for a minute, and then restarting. All was well, and I was on FW V17.

What I would do in your case:
- Unplug all peripherals from Thunderbolt except the ones you absolutely need.
- Do not have anything connected to the Studio Monitor ports.
- Quit all applications and avoid having startup apps.
- Power down both systems and unplug for 1 min.
- Boot into Sonoma.
- Let it update.
- Unplug and replug the monitor, if there are issues. If that does not work, power cycle the system again.

Keep us posted!

Thanks! This worked! I did everything you stated other than disabling my startup apps. The key seems to be to avoid having any peripherals plugged into either the monitor or mac.

I managed to update my Studio Display to FW V17 but the webcam is not working correctly if you turn off center stage. I have been looking for ways to revert back to V16.4 but can't seem to find any solution is that even possible? The problem is that the mac os beta is running on a test machine but the monitor is also plugged into my production device and the webcam does not work there either...
