I have a downloaded movie that is a MKV file. I changed it to am mp4 file using Subler. It won't play in iTunes. It shows up and appears to start to play but nothing. It will play using VLC. This one movie isn't that important but I would like to know what I'm doing wrong to learn from it.

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, but I'd suggest downloading Handbrake. It's free and has specific presets depending on what you want to view the movie on (iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, etc).

I tried that too but it didn't help.

You're not necessarily doing anything wrong. Downloaded files are sketchy...you get what you pay for. ;)
