problem with apple dvd player

i have a problem with apples dvd player, i used toast to make a backup image of one of my dvds and i thought that when i mounted it i could use apples dvd player to view it. i was wrong, it wont play because the program says that there is no disk, which is true. however i want to view dvd imgs on my computer, does anybody know of any other mac dvd players i could use, or maybe a patch that i could use to edit apples player? i already tried to use the DVD Player FS Patch but that didnt work....

i didn't think toast could duplicate a DVD. could be wrong tho. if i'm correct, you need to extract the video and sound tracks, then re-form them into an MPEG-2 (i think) movie, then use a player to view that....

DVD's have copy protection built in. someone with more knowledge of toast would have to comment on this one...

It's exactly the opposite. Because Toast is made by a company, they don't want the MPAA suing them because they allow you to copy DVD's.

How on earth did you use Toast to do that?
Didn't know...

DVD's have built in copyright protection so basically you shouldn't be able to use DVD Player to view it. :( how did you try to view it-open video_ts folder or something?

I wish you could copy DVDs.
 
VLC

Try VLC (VideoLan Client, can be found on versiontracker.com)

VLC will allow you to play the .vob files themself, which should allow you to watch the DVD without the disc, or the DVD player, etc. The only problem is that you'll basically have to do each vob manually, so you won't be able to use the DVD's menu or anything.

I haven't tried this on Mplayer, but it might be able to do it also, and this can be found at versiontracker.com as well. Mplayer sometimes seems to work better (not dropping as many frames) and can work with a custom playlist. The quality thing could be a problem on my side though, since I still have all G3's, hehe.

i actually use a program called DVDExtractor 0.9b, this is illegal in the usa because it extracts the country code from the dvd. using this program you can either extract audio and video to your harddrive or you can make an image of the dvd, the program saves the image in toast format so you can mount it with that program. im looking for a program that can play mounted dvds
 
You can use an app called 0SEx to extract the video and mm2c to decode the MPEG-2's. Use mAC3 (or some such thing) to decode the AC3 audio.

Or drag the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive and, in Apple DVD Player, choose Open Video_TS from the File menu. Fun!

There is no way to copy DVDs yet.

It takes a lot of time and with little results. In other words, no way... yet.

Even there are not PC software that can rip DVDs on one single step. Usually the softwares aout there extrac fragments or chapter but not the entire stuff.

Actually that's not entirely true. There are apps out there that allow you to rip entire DVDs.
 
yeah use DVDBackup. This will create a folder wherever you choose contain lots of /vob files and other stuff. In apple DVD Player, go to file -> open video_ts folder and select the folder that dvd backup created. This will load the movie as if it where a dvd complete with menus and eveything. Only problem is this will take up a lotta HD space. between 2 and 8 gb depending on the movie.

yes there is a program DVDXCOPY EXPRESS is excelent it make a perfect copy of any movie. but it works only with PC.
I have backed up all my movies there is no problems.
It's %100 good.
