hey

i am having a huge problem with black levels specifically when using photoshop. i don't know if it's a problem with photoshop itself or with my screen/color settings, but i am getting very aggrivated. for some reason, a greyscale black to transparent gradient comes out looking absolutely awful.

on top is a white -> transparent (grey bg layer) gradient. looks fine.

then i did black -> transparent (grey bg) gradient. not so fine.

wtf is wrong here? i am clueless.

I dont understand what you mean. Are you talking about banding? or some sort of color anomaly ? if you could take a picture of the MBP with a gradient on the screen that would help a lot.

yes i'm talking about banding.... i dont understand why it's happening.

Well banding...unfortunately, that is a common issue with all MBP (i believe). Something about Apple using 8-bit panels instead of 16-bit? or 6-bit instead of 8-bit? Something like that...

Anyhow, "normal" :(

EDIT: Unless, you have a more serious issue. For instance, on the picture you posted, i only see a relatively minor banding around the mid-grey to black area.
