Problem with built in airport

I have a MBP CD and am having some trouble with the airport card. I have noticed that it does not connect to or pick up wireless networks that are easily accessible. My friends HP laptop picks them up and i have also seen a macbook user sitting in front of me in a lecture with full internet signal and access while mine won't even pick up or if it does, connect to the network. What could be the problem and are there any solutions? Thanks in advance.

The aluminium shell of the MBP apparently makes the reception of the MBP worse, but it should still not be too bad.

Yeah, i have a MBP, and i experience the same problem. Its quite annoying, especially during long lectures
