Hi

I have been having a constantly irritating issue with Optimized Charging kicking in on my Airpods Pro 1. Basically, I begin the week with a full charge on both Airpods and the case. I then use the Airpods for about 2-3 hours in the late afternoon early evening. The charge on the Airpods will drop to about 60-70 over percent depending on the usage. After the first use, I stick the Airpods back in the case and they will charge back to 100%. On the second day of the week, I repeat the same usage. However, this time when I stick the Airpods back into the case, they do NOT charge to 100%. Optimized Charging which is turned on in my iPhone, kicks in and they go to 80% not long after. However, I will then get a pop up saying that Optimized Charging is on and they will charge until 6.30 - 7.30 pm the next day. This pretty much means that the next time I want to use them, I have to turn Optimized Charging off in order to be able to use them. So basically, after the first full charge I am literally unable to use them unless the charging is interrupted.

What bothers me is that the charging takes so long for the last 20% rendering the Airpods unusable. In comparison my iPhone charges from a low battery level to 80% in about 30 mins. It then takes about another hour to get to the full 100%. Why does Optimized Charging on the Airpods take longer than 24 hours for the last 20%?

I had them replaced. The replacement pair worked for about 3 weeks and then the same happened. To make it worse the replacement pair has intermittent static and dropouts in sound. The replacement came in a sealed box but I suspect they were a refurbished rather than a new pair as out of the box, the charging case had many hairline scratches when held up to the light.

Does anyone else have the same issue?

I turned optimized charging off on all my Apple devices because of the wacky implementation. I use smart plugs with automations to charge my iPhone and iPad. My AirPod Pros and Apple Watch I just charge to 100% when necessary..

I have 2 AirPods 3 and an AirPods Pro 2. I am not consistent at all in how I use these devices. I charge and burn through them depending on how many meetings I have and how much music I listen to and if I exercise.

Despite this, optimized charging turns on randomly on all these devices with no logic to it.

Doesn't really bother me because I have multiple AirPods to deal with the need to switch to a fresh pair while the other pair is charging (work mostly). But 80% will last whatever I'm using them for without any problems.

I'd love a "Charge to 80 only" option <shrug>. Sometimes my Pro 2s sit for awhile without being used and I'm sure being at 100% doesn't help the longevity.

So the issue is not solved on the AirPods Pro 2?

I wish I could afford multiple pairs but that isn't likely nor feasible as a "fix" to an obvious flaw in the Apple's implementation
I'd just turn it off if I was you and only had one pair. I'm considering doing the same (turning off optimized charging).

I have a work pair, a personal pair, and the Pros were a Christmas present splurge (they help during work travel (airplane flights)). lol.

The AirPods 3 do the optimized charging the most. Some weeks it'll do it, other weeks it just won't.

I just wish Apple would give us the option to always have it on or not. Whatever they're using as a trigger for it is whacky, lol.

You can turn it on or off no?
What I meant was, I wish we could have the option of limiting charge to 80% all the time, or set a specific time period when it'll only charge to 80% instead of this "intelligent" optimized charging that clearly doesn't work.

But yeah, in the settings there's an option to turn off Optimized Charging or not.

Got you
