Problem with email Accounts - Help Please!

I wanted to set up an email separate email account for myself and my wife on our new Macbook. However, while there are 2 mailboxes, all the mail is "lumped" together. Not what was intended. Can anyone advise me on this? I must point out I'm an absolute new switcher from XP. Delighted with the Macbook Air but bewidered by the software. Really, I cannot believe it's not possible to have multiple email accounts. Be heartily glad of advice. Thanks.

There is a little arrow to the left of inbox. Press that and you can highlight which mailbox you want to see alone. In mail preferences/ accounts/ you can name the accounts appropriately.
