Problem with Mac Mini....

I returned to my Mac mini after dinner in a state where it was suffering from major lag, the mouse was moving really slowly and I couldn't get the activity monitor opened.

So I manually shut off the Mac Mini and when I restarted it and I noticed the chime intro sound was sounding fizzy and distorted... and now I'm having a problem where I can't get passed the white/grey screen.

I saw a flashing folder with a question mark a few times but I couldn't get passed that either. I noticed my mouse and my external drive were no longer being powered?

Did I fry my Mac Mini ? What do I do now? I only purchased it in April last year and I'm starting to get pissed off!

If you bought it new, it should still be under warranty.

hhhmm sounds like the hard drive is failing!?!? i base my assumption on the fact that you ahve the Question Mark folder..

definately get it checked.

Since you've brought the machine in April 2008, you still have the original warranty and you still have time to upgrade to Applecare (just think about it)... Just don't buy applecare, register the machine and take it in for service the day after. Apple might be suspicious and think the unit was faulty to begin with.

All sounds like a faulty or dying HD to me. There's no really solution to it other than get the unit check.

Try resetting the System Management Controller.

Hopefully, but this is really damn unfortunate. This is my first Mac, no complaints, not even a year since I've owned the thing and it just slaps me in the face. I thought Steve Jobs said " we don't ship junk " 0__0

Things go bad, hence the warranty. I'd be frustrated too, but electronics can fail for a host of unforeseen reasons.
