Hi, I am having a problem with my macbook pro.

I have a macbook pro early 2013 version. I haven't been using it for a while then I needed to open the laptop. But it does not open.

The problem is when I press the power button, there is a mechanical sound (maybe harddrive spinning I don't know, but it is the sound when the laptop opens after being in sleep mode for a while) coming from the inside and it keeps repeating each second while pressing the power button.
So I searched on google what the problem might be, but I got no answers. Then I looked into a video about a reset method which pressing the power button and while pressing the power button, plugging in the charger and keep pressing it. So I did that and it worked but the problem is when I plug in the charger, the fans start to run at full throttle and it becomes so noisy. The macbook starts a bit slowly but starts anyway and comes to the desktop screen without a problem (but I realized that the battery percentage does not show). Then when I unplug the charger, it turns off immediately and the sounds of the fans go away. Then I press the power button again but to no avail.

Another point: When I press the power button without the charger plugged in, nothing happens no matter how long I press it.

When the charger is plugged in, even if I don't press any buttons, the mechanical sound keeps coming as long as it is plugged in.

The link to the sound: https://vocaroo.com/19w1g6l5oMMD

Can you please help? Thanks.

Hi.
Are you sure that this is MBP Early 2013?
As for me, it sounds like a corrupt or seriously damaged HDD (but in MBP's 2013 there isn't any as well as SuperDrive (DVD), SSD only.

Apple Diagnostics (consider as Apple Hardware Test) will be quite reasonable

You can try with Internet Recovery Mode (check guidance) too see a report from Disk Utility (i don't know your macOS version but the process shouldn't seriously differ) (IRM stores at RAM/motherboard rather than internal storage) or with external boot source (it's from Mac; from PC will be more complicated but you can give it a try with VMware's) if you have 2nd computer available.

but the thing is when I boot up the mac with the charger plugged in, it shows all my files and data in place. So I don't it is a HDD issue.

Indeed.Didn't catch that, sorry.
Ok, how about  –> About This Mac –> System Report –> find there "Power" (in Hardware chapter) and check there:
Health Information:
Cycle Count:
Condition:
If the condition is bad, then huh... Battery replacement is needed. But it's kinda weird because even without battery portable Macs can handle, not a dash and creepily, but still (Apple restricts portable Mac performance if the battery is dead, or close to it, for ex. it mentioned here)

OP:

If the MacBook will boot with the charger plugged in, it's almost certainly not a "drive issue".

Hmmm... that's a retina MBP, right? If so, it has an SSD inside, not a platter-based hard drive (HDD).

Have you ever had the battery replaced?
If not, I'm going to guess that a battery replacement has a good chance to get things going again.

Are you in the USA or Canada?
Or perhaps Western Europe?

If you have a brick-n-mortar Apple Store anywhere near, they MIGHT offer to do a $199 (US) battery replacement. This includes:
- A new Apple-labeled OEM battery
- Installation
- A short warranty.
A pretty good deal, actually.

With it running fine on power, my guess is that your battery is shot. Is it still on the original battery? If so, would be worth getting it replaced if the cost makes sense to you.
