Problem with notifications on lock screen.. argh

So overall 11 on my X is pretty well-behaved. The one problem I don't know what's up with is when a notification comes in , like an imessage or the like, it says who it is from the then just 'notification' . If I access that banner/notification then it will show me the short version of what the message or app communication says.

Am I missing a setting? I have to be.

You have notification previews set to unlocked only. You can either disable that (gobally or on a per app basis in the notification settings) or have FaceID authenticate you to reveal preview content.
