im using photoshop cs on my ibook and it has been working very well. As of today, whenever i would change the image size and click ok it would become un-responsive. i can still switch between applications with (apple + tab) i cannot work in these applications though, only close them. the dock does not magnify as i roll over it, and i cannot open folders. all that works is the mouse on the screen (which isnt much)

problem with photoshop

could be a (virtual or ram) memory issue or scratch disk prob... just a wild guess -- clear Photoshop's history, have a look at the activity monitor...
the image size could also have some bearing. If the machine is in the process of trying to (for example) resize a 1G file down to 100 mB, it would act as described.
On a completely different line of thought, are there any other applications that are acting like this? (namely FinalCut, Illustrator, or Quark) A friend of mine had a problem with similar symptoms on his ibook G4 800. Applications would open fine, but were not usable and generally resulted in the system acting as if it was hung. (this is in panther). I tried permissions repairs, optimization, and all the normal stuff, but in the end, deleting his user preferences folder solved all the problems. If this is indeed the case, you will be able to tell by creating another account (if you don't already have one) and trying photoshop from that account. If this solves the problem, it is user account based, and I would consider deleting them. (backup as always) Sounds weird, but it worked.

It is a ibook 1.2 ghz with 14 inch display (obviosly) running osx 10.3
i have 768 ram installed and the files are pretty small (15 mbs or less)
I have only been using photoshop for a few days so i've only worked on 12 or so photos. thanks for suggestions ill try them
later: i noticed that this occured more often while using my bluetooth keyboard. i dont know if this would make any difference or not, but i'll be as specfic as possible. when i select image size i try to adjust the size using the right keypad. nothing happens then i use the row above the letter keys. this is when it becomes un-presponsive. i have to quit the application (it still lets me save though)...any ideas??

Some things I've read elsewhere...
- Create a new account, try running the program from there.
- Ditch Photoshops preferences
- Try a clean reinstall of Photoshop
- Ensure you have the latest updater from Adobe.com for whatever version you have (7 or CS)

try deleting the adobe pref file
and repairing permissions which you can find under disk utilities

Matt, when I run into problems like yours I try to be very analytical in resolving it. First reboot, and before anything launch photoshop and recreate the problem noting exactly what you did to cause the problem. Re-boot try again. Try something different to see how easy it is to isolate the cause. After each attempt, re-boot and start with a fresh Finder. Then think to see if it was Photoshop, or something in BlueTooth, or something else. as you strip away the variables the culprit will become obvious. It may be the prefs getting corrupt or maybe a clean install will help, but try to get an exact reason before just stabbing in the dark.
