Hello,

I am trying to use my new mac mini with my 600hz plasma television and the only refresh rate I can get through the HDMI connection is 60hz. This frequency gives me headaches and I am hoping to be able to use the mini with at least 120hz on the television. Any advice? I tried to go to display settings and it won't let me change the refresh rate above 60hz.

Thanks.

That's just marketing when they throw out 600hz. People assume it's the refresh rate but it's sub-field drive. Plasma pixels can't stay on and are always firing instead. ie, your tv's pixels fire 10x per frame while the frames change 60 times per sec = 600hz. The result is an illusion of smoothness but effective refresh rate of 60hz. LCDs are different in that the pixels stay on, but still frame interpolation within the tv to try and mask the 60hz refresh rate. I do share your discontent of 60hz which I think is probably less apparent on LCDs and they are more suited for computer use (depending on what you are doing) since plasma does have the burn issue. You can find 120hz LCD monitors but they will cost a lot I guess.
