After looking through the WINE HQ app compatibility database, I decided to install Shaiya on my OSX partition and no longer boot into Windows to play the game.
I downloaded the installer and used Winebottler to install the game. When I tried to launch the game from the app Winebottler created, it crashed without showing so much as a splash screen. Then, I opened up the package contents from the app Winebottler made and launched Shaiya directly with WINE. The game loaded and successfully completed updating itself.
Now, the problem: when I click start game, the developer's splash screen shows and then the game crashes. According to the WINE website, there are many people successfully running the game, albeit in Linux (the game is listed as having platinum compatibility). I tried a couple fixes, such as installing DX9 and having WINE report different Windows versions to the game and nothing fixed the problem. Does anyone here have suggestions? Did I go about installing the game wrong and is there a better way to get it running under WINE?
