After looking through the WINE HQ app compatibility database, I decided to install Shaiya on my OSX partition and no longer boot into Windows to play the game.

I downloaded the installer and used Winebottler to install the game. When I tried to launch the game from the app Winebottler created, it crashed without showing so much as a splash screen. Then, I opened up the package contents from the app Winebottler made and launched Shaiya directly with WINE. The game loaded and successfully completed updating itself.

Now, the problem: when I click start game, the developer's splash screen shows and then the game crashes. According to the WINE website, there are many people successfully running the game, albeit in Linux (the game is listed as having platinum compatibility). I tried a couple fixes, such as installing DX9 and having WINE report different Windows versions to the game and nothing fixed the problem. Does anyone here have suggestions? Did I go about installing the game wrong and is there a better way to get it running under WINE?

You will probably not be able to run it if your using the macbook you list there with the Intel X3100. Intel graphics usually run horrible and have major problems under Wine. For Wine usage, usually nvidia is the best options with ATI the second best...

Generally I would agree, except the forums mentioned specifically that the game ran surprisingly well with the X3100.

the game.... or the game in Wine on Macs... or the game in Wine on Linux?

its not a hardware problem of running the game under Wine, its a driver issue, and how well it works in Windows has absolutely no bearing to how its going to run with Wine.

If you have access to someone else who has gotten it to work with a X3100 with Wine, then they would probably be the best help.

It was the game using WINE, but I'm not sure if it was OSX or Linux.
