Hi everyone,

There is some problem with my keyboard. Everytime I press the button k, this is what comes out: ˚

Also, everytime I press the left arrow, what happens is that instead of moving to the left for one character it moves all the way to the previous word.

You may ask how I'm typing "k" now, Yes I'm using the infamous Copy-Paste. Please help me cause this problem is really irritating.

By the way, on the mac, when I press k, this comes out: ˚ and the left arrow goes to the previous word. On the windows though, both keys do absolutely nothing. This is lame :(.

Help is appreciated. Thanks. :)

Is your Option ("alt") key stuck down? If not, have you spilt anything on the keyboard recently that might have shorted out the option key?

What you're describing is definitely what happens as a result of the option key being pressed, odd how it is only happening for the 'k' and arrow keys.

Hi, Thanks for your fast reply.

My Alt/Option key is not held down. I did recently wipe my keyboard but that was quite long ago after that when the problem started. Recently, I did a reinstall of the Mac OS X Partition and it was during that period that this problem started.

By the way, when I press Shift + k, this is what appears : 
Does Option + Shift + k give you an apple sign?

I reply to anyone who posts tomorrow. Going to sleep now. Thanks for all your help.

Option+Shift+K = 

So this is definitely a problem with the Option key. In that case, how can I solve this problem? Can anyone at least share their thoughts? I really want this problem over with and it will be a long time before I get my next computer so I need to fix this for the time being.

What type of computer do you have, laptop or desktop? I'm at a loss as to what to suggest short of replacing the keyboard, bit this is obviously difficult with a laptop.

If you have a laptop, are you within accessible reach of an Apple Retail Store?

Sorry I can't be of more help, the only experience I've had of this sort of thing is after I spilt beer on my keyboard — which never recovered.

I have a macbook and I do know of a Apple Retail Store nearby at a mall. Maybe I will check it out but I don't find any reason to do so cause the k button is not very important. Thanks for your help anyway.

Sorry for reviving a dead post, but I found out that the "k" button does work perfectly when I'm using the command prompt in windows. I just press it and "k" comes out fine. However, in all other cases, it won't work. I'm just wondering if this could be a software issue or some corrupted BIOS or firmware, something like that. I'm not really a tech expert neither do I know about how the OS works but is there are chance that by reinstalling Mac OS X Leopard, the k button might start working again.
