Problem with windows 7 in boot camp!!!

Basically it is running extremely slowly.

I made a bootcamp parition, I installed windows 7, I put in the OSX install disk and let it install the bootcamp drivers, and now i'm going on the internet to try and download firefox, antivirus, video card drivers, etc... and the computer is extremely slow, and the internet is downloading at about 1/100 what it normally does.


any ideas?

What are the specs of your Mac?

Is your Internet connection over ethernet or wireless?

low end new 13" MBP (so only 2 gigs of ram, which could be an issue)

Ethernet, fast cable modem.

I'm finishing some windows updates so i'll see how things are when that finishes.

Sorry for the panicked thread. It seems to be running fine now after restarting.

More ram would be good though.

2 GB should be fine.

32-bit or 64-bit Win7? Not that it really makes a difference, just wondering.

64 bit. I read up on it and it seems that with the new MBP's they ship with updated bootcamp software (2.1) so the 64 bit version works.

I'm guessing it was the updating that slowed things down.

Right-Click the task bar and open the task manager

What % of everything is being used?... Any programs have a HUGE amount of resources going on?

Ok now I have a real problem.


Whenever I restart or turn on my computer, it now automatically boots to windows. I know I can hold the option key to pick, but I want my default to be OSX so that when I install updates and stuff I don't have to babysit it so that it doesn't boot into windows!

I think you can change that on the bootcamp options :windows side
and settings>startup disk :Mac side

That same thing happened to me once after I installed Linux...I almost had a heart attack thinking that I'd wiped OS X (and all my files)! I have no idea how I managed to do that, either.

I haven't used Windows 7 in Boot Camp, but I can tell you how it works with XP. I don't imagine that things would have changed too much.

On the Windows side, right click on the Boot Camp icon in the task bar beside the clock. A menu will pop up, and on it, select "Restart in OS X." This will reset the default boot OS. Likewise, there's a similar tool in the Boot Camp tool somewhere in the Control Panel.

Hope this points you in the right direction.
