Okay, so, this isn't really Windows on a Mac we're taking about here...it's trouble with Windows on a standard PC laptop. Please don't crucify me  It's actually a friend's laptop, so bear with me. To make matters more complicated, she's about 1500 kilometres away.

Basically, whenever she double-clicks on folders, a search window appears instead of opening the window. I'm sure there must be some setting she accidentally messed with in order to make it work like that, but I've been unable to find a parallel on my roommate's Windows machine. (In fact, the bastard even crashed when I tried to access the help files)

Has anyone else ever come across this? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks in advance!

P.S. Things like this are precisely why I've used Macs my whole life. Beautiful, in a way ;)

Is it a regular explorer window, but with a search bar on the side? If so, click the search button in the bar at the top to toggle it off.

Apparently it's like a standard search window...the type you get when you go Start --> Search. When she closes the tab like you said, it still says "to start you search, follow the instructions in the left pane".
