I haven't used safari in a while but decided to give it another shot as my regular browser. Everything is working fine except youtube. All other sites that use flash work fine too, and I made sure I have the latest version. Below are some screenshots showing whats happening.

As you can see the youtube home page loads just fine.

But every video I try to play this is what I get. Basically what looks like a bunch of gibberish to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: well actually the problem came back in a matter of minutes. I am now stumped. This now happens even if I uninstall all of my safari extensions (only had 2). I have also re installed flash player, but I don't think it has to do with flash player since all other website that use flash work fine. Chrome is still loading youtube perfectly, I would just really like to have the option of using safari as my browser but with out being able to use youtube that wont work. Like I said any tips or advice I would really appreciate.

Youtube issues on Safari

I am having the same problem since yesterday. Please give us some instructions on how to rectify the issue. :)

Are you running in HTML5 "mode"?

I have tried it with the HTML 5 trial turned off and on, didn't change anything :(

Since there seems to be another person with this problem I will go ahead and post my computer specs, maybe it will help narrow something down. I have a 2010 mac mini. Core 2 duo 2.4Ghz, 8GB of RAM, Geforce 320M graphics. Running OS X 10.8.2, and safari is at version 6.0.1. I have checked and I have no updates to install from the app store.

I am having the exact same problem, and the problem started last night.

I have an early 2011 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 13-inch Macbook Pro.

My version of safari is at version 6.0.1.

Youtube issues on Safari

The specs on mine are 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, 8GB, NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB, OS X Lion 10.7.5, 1 TB hard drive MId 2010

I don't know why you folks are seeing this issue, but if you EXIT the HTML5 trial and use this extension all YT vids (even embeds on other sites) will play in HTML5. I just checked and it still works fine.

This didn't fix the problem. I have the extension installed, but the same problem persists.

I had the same problem this morning. I rebooted my MBP and still had the problem. About 5 min later all was fine . . . Weird.

Youtube issues on Safari

I live in Oklahoma, and the Youtube issue still exist...on and off though. It will work for several videos then all of the sudden back to the scrambled display :(
Must be some kind of glitch with Youtube and Safari. I have downloaded all the recommended updates and still the same problem. I even tried my other 2 Macs thinking it was just this one, but the same on the other 2.

It seems to be working now.

As soon as I saw all the posts here indicating they had the same problem as me I knew it was a YT problem so I just waited it out.

Youtube issues on Safari

Just give it a while and it will go back to the same issue. Mine was working for the past 45 minutes...now back to scrambled

Things seems fine for me now too. Like everyone else I noticed it would happen for a while then go away, and come back. But everything seems fine tonight. I noticed when I use chrome that youtube has a new layout and style, so they are probably tweaking a few things behind the scenes. Thank for all the feedback everyone. Glad to see it wasn't my computers fault.

Same problem here!

I did leave the Youtube trial, but I'm having the same issue since yesterday.

If I restart my browser, it sometimes loads up the website. But after awhile, it dies :(

I should mention that I'm in Texas, so if this is a regional issue it might be useful to know the extent of this issue.

I'm also using a 2008 unibody Macbook running ML 10.8.2 with Safari 6.0.1.

I have been watching quite a few videos on youtube tonight in safari and haven't had the issue come back. But if you are still having that problem, I'am located in Arkansas just to give a little more information.

Edit: Well videos are still playing fine in safari. However now I cant get the video size to expand. When I click that button that is left of the full screen button the size of the video dosen't change. Everything is still working how it should on chrome however. It just seems that the past 2 days or so youtube really hates safari lol.

Temporary fluke website issues aside, while I like Chrome on Linux or Win, I don't get why people choose Chrome on OS X when there's Safari. The performance of both browsers is comparable, meanwhile Safari on OS X is more polished, it integrates quite well with the OS using underlying capabilities efficiently & the UI is consistent. Features like the ability to drag/drop files to upload dialogs are great! I can no longer live without the ML gestures, like flicking through pages [I'm surprised iOS does not support this (yet)].

I agree with you. Thats why I wanted to go back to safari on my mac. Im just waiting for youtube to fix this stuff so that it will work how it should. Soon as that is done I'am going to go back to trying to use safari as my main browser on OS X.

Edit: And everything on youtube with safari seems to be back to normal including expanding the video windows. Glad all that is over with.
