Problems After Callibrating Battery - help please!

Hi all -

I got my refurb MBA (13"/128/4GB) on Friday and did the initial battery calibration with the MBA being fully drained yesterday and left off another 6 hours before charging overnight.

Anyway, when I turned it on today I noticed that my trash had 52 files in it -- 50 of these are various fonts and of the other 2 a document called "OfficeSetupSemaphore" and a Unix Executable FIle called "wkresources".

I am kind of freaked out by this and wondering what to do.

Any suggestions/tips? Thanks so much in advance.

Seriously? So emptying the trash w/arial font and times new roman font etc. etc. won't affect putting docs together and such??

Look in your Fonts folder and see if they aren't still there. My guess is that if it's in the Trash, it was some temporary or corrupted file.

I picked one of the fonts in the trash (Consolas Bold) and attempted to find it in the different font folders --

library - fonts
system - library - fonts
user - library - fonts (this one was completely empty btw)

and this font was NOT in any of these leading me to believe I would indeed be toasting fonts to just empty the trash.

I've only installed Word (not the whole suite just Word to save space) and Firefox so it wouldn't be super cumbersome to reinstall the OS (never done this but I am guessing there are some easy to follow tutorials).

You can try moving those fonts back into the fonts folder, then launch Font Book to add and verify your fonts.
Install Pacifist to extract the fonts that came with your Mac from your Mac OS X install disk.

Oy - getting more complicated. What happened to empty trash & ignore? Were you assuming the fonts were still in the system somewhere? What would be the downside in reinstalling the OS?

It's not uncommon to find temporary files in the Trash after a restart. In your initial post you didn't say that the fonts that were in the trash were system fonts that were no longer in the proper font folder. I assumed they were fonts you downloaded or installed, copying them to the font folders, leaving the originals in the trash.

There is no downside to reinstalling the OS, but it's overkill. If you want to do so, go for it.

Decided to do the fresh (re) install. I had been thinking of doing it anyway to save a few GB of space so all is well now.

As I follow up, I've just noticed that there are 51 files (all but one fonts) AGAIN part of recovered files in the trash.

Given this was a fresh install and the only product installed afterward was MS Word for the Mac (only Word) there must be some sort of glitch here. As mentioned before, these are NOT dup font files.

Anyone else notice this??

It's leftover junk from running Office 2011. With luck the update coming next week will fix this. Go ahead and delete the files in the trash.

Yea - I guess it is not very clear!!

The point was that after calibrating my battery (full charge +2-4 hours --> full discharge +4-6 hours) at the next start/restart the files appeared in the trash. Since I didn't even use the machine during the two calibration cycles and had only installed one program I thought there might be a connection with how data is held/etc. once the battery fully discharges. Same thing happened twice, but might simply be issues w/MSWord for Mac 2011. Before and after the 2 discharge cycles I did restarts without any files being in the trash. It was only after the discharge cycles that they appeared.

I can see why you might think that, but the files have nothing to do with calibration. They're related to MS Word.

I'm sure you are correct but it threw me off at first. But I guess just another MS product hiccup. As someone mentioned, perhaps the upcoming Office update will help. Still strange to see fonts deleted by the system in the trash!
