I have an original iPhone that I want to use just as an iPod and occasionally use the WiFi functionality. I upgraded to a 3Gs on launch day so I do not intend to use the original iPhone for calls ever again. The original iPhone seemed to be suffering some sort of software errors (dock/airplane/unsupported hardware messages when nothing was plugged into the dock connector) so I decided to update to 3.0.1. When I did this it now wants me to re-activate. Obviously I'm not going to re-activate and really just want the iPod/internet functionality of this $600-two-year-old-device.

I tried searching and couldn't find what I'm looking for. I know I've read similar discussions, but with using words like activation, iPod, touch, iPhone, etc. I get about 2.3458230984x10^5 threads. It's insane. This link is the only one I came across and it doesn't have much to it. I don't have an extra SIM card (that is activated) to try so that's not an option. The OP is looking to do the same thing as me, though. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/777731/

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Corey

You can either put your SIM in and activate it, or jailbreak it.
So in it's current status (connect to iTunes to activate) I can jailbreak it? I would have though it would need to be able to get to the home screen. That isn't a problem with me at all if that is an option.

BTW, thanks for the quick reply.
