Problems Connecting to shares on ML Server from Windows

I continue to have an issue with Windows computers when I try to map a drive to shares on my ML Server. It won't accept the user password. I have verified that the password is correct and tested it with various user accounts.

Would this be Windows 2000 by chance? If so it's because Apple took SMB support for Win2000 out of Mountain Lion. I have this problem and I have not found a free alternative to get it back.

Windows Versions

No, it is Windows XP, Vista and 7. Haven't been able to get it to let me gain access to the sharepoints on the server.
