Hi all, wondering if anyone out there can help me. I'm trying to encode my HBO DVD's using Handbrake. I have already encoded nearly 600 movies and 200 TV Shows without problem, but have found my HBO titles to be a little more difficult. The problem is that when i preview the DVD in picture settings i can see what normally needs deinterlacing, and having read the Handbrake forums extensively, set Handbrake to Decomb Default. However after the encode is complete, the interlacing lines are gone, but the picture quality is jerky during scenes with motion. I have used deinterlacing and decomb before, with great results, but it seems that titles from HBO are different. The titles in particular are True Blood, Entourage, Everybody Loves Raymond and Carnivale - Season 2 (Season 1 did not need deinterlacing and encoded perfectly).
I am using Handbrake 0.9.3, Video Codec - H.264, Framerate - Same as source, Average bitrate - 2500, 2 pass encoding and Decomb - default (if it looks to need deinterlacing). Oh and i have also used Deinterace - slower instead of decomb with the same result.
Well, hope all this makes sense and that someone out there can be of help.

The only HBO issue I've had was with The Sopranos.

It seems with them, SOMEtimes the opening titles need de-interlacing, but other times not. The actual episodes though were fine.

I don't know enough about it to be able to say why, and if this even helps you, but there you go...

Yeah, i've come across a number of shows that only need the titles de-interlacing (like Scrubs), that i could live with, but with the shows i've listed above it's the actual episodes that are the problem. Thanks though :)
