Hey!
I’m in a bit of a pickle here. I have a Mac Pro 5.1 (mid 2010) which is in dire need of an OS upgrade. I managed to get an Asus Geforce GTX 780 which I assume allows me to upgrade to Mojave.
I struggle with finding enough power and the cables, and where to actually buy the cables, to get the new GPU up and running as it requires both a 6-pin and an 8-pin to function. I have 2x 6-pin mini-PCIE outputs on the board, plus the power which is hooked up to the optical disk.
The problem with the cables powering the optical disk is that they are combined SATA with power and data both in the same socket (7+15 pin). Something which I’ve never encountered before.
What I think I should do is connect the two mini-PCIE outputs to a 2x 6-pin PCIE to 8-pin adapter. Then somehow manage to find a cable which has these 2x 7+15pin (I presume) SATA inputs and a 6-pin PCIE on the other end. My problem is where exactly do I find these cables? I’ve never even seen a SATA cable like this, and I can’t find mini-PCIE cables in my country.
Any tips on what’s the best option and where to buy these cables are greatly appreciated! I’ve attached photos of said components. Also if someone has any info whether I need to delete or install any drivers to operate this thing, or is it good to go with High Sierra and Mojave soon as I get it powered up?
