I have a 16gig 3G iPhone running on 3.1.2 firmware and using a Mac OS X 10.5.8. My phone is completely locked and never has been jailbroken before. Im using Pwnage Tool 3.1.4 and have gotten all the way past the DFU steps using both the simple and expert modes. Now when I tried restoring my iPhone with the custom firmware pack, it says its incompatible this first happened in simple mode and continues to happen all the time no matter what I select or deselect in genius mode. Now my iPhone is stuck on the connect usb to itunes screen and when I try to do a regular factory restore is gives me the error message 1601. What should I do now?

I've tried reinstalling itunes,
I've tried using Pwnage without itunes running in the background and with itunes uninstalled on my mac and then installing it after the firmware pack is created.

I also tried using blackra1n before using Pwnage and the file that I download from the original site doesn't even open up. I am using a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and have had no luck in activating the blackra1n program on my macbook at all. It never opens blackra1n, it selects it, blackra1n icon hops and then nothing. The same thing still happens after.

Please any help is needed.

I clicked on NO, and the program proceeded to complete the custom .ipsw My main roadblock is getting the custom firmware to be accepted as the restorative package for my iPhone after DFU mode has been enabled.

I'm starting to wonder whether or not the firmware restore bundle which you use to create the custom .ipsw is the correct version for my 3g 16gig v3.1.2 I am using iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw

When I looked into the library/itunes/iPhone Software Updates the .ipsw in there is labeled iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
This led me to believe I was using the wrong one to make my inital custom firmware, but Pwnge in simple mode selects iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw itself out of all the possible firmware packeges I have downloaded for each iPhone version under 3.1.2. When in expert mode it is still the only that allows me to start the creation of the custom .ipsw. So is this the correct one for my phone or is the Pwnge mistaken somehow?

So if I cant fix this problem at all and my screen stays stuck on the connect to iTunes screen, what is the possibilty to get my phone replaces by Apple? I've replaced my phone 3 times over issues non-jb related for free, and I wonder how I can explain this situation and still get a new phone. Is Apple able to tell that I was trying to JB a phone when error 1601 shows?

And again, any help on this is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Well, that's what I suspected from the beginning, but you told me you were using the iPhone1,2 firmware when I asked you about it. The iPhone1,1 firmware you've been using is for the original 2G iPhone. That's why it's telling you it's not compatible.

You can get the file you need here.

You may be clicking on the wrong phone image on the first screen of PwnageTool. The phone you need to click on is the one on the far right, the image of the 3GS (yes, even though your phone is a 3G). If you look closely, you will see that there is no image of the 3G; the options are for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPhone 3G/3GS.

You sir (thelatinist) are a God amongst men. Thank you! I feel like a total douche for not realizing that misstep sooner. Problem solved, fully jailbroken iphone now.
