iPhone Problems jailbreaking ios 4.1 on 3GS

The jailbreaking process is fine.But when it gets to the home screen the phone just goes into DFU mode.Anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it? By the way to make matters worse the power button is broken.But it could be there is still a fix.
