Guys, I’m still on the fence between Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard. So I hope to those who own a Magic Keyboard, drop their opinions as well as the condition on their keyboard.

I hope this thread also help those who face the same situation as I do

I own both the Smart Keyboard and the MK on a 2018 12.9" iPad. I will say that the keyboard is miles ahead on feel, and in my opinion typing speed. Note I learned touch typing a long time ago. So keyboard feel is important to me. The lighted keys on the MK is also a plus.

The MK's trackpad has wowed me to some extent. However, not all apps. have yet caught up with the touchpad. I'm sure this will improve over time.

There have also been problems with connection problems between the MK and the host iPad. This is very annoying when you think about how much this accessory costs. I've never had an issue with my first folio, other than the exterior does no age well.

I know I state the obvious here. But, it really depends on your need to type a lot, and of course your pocketbook. If you use your iPad on a desktop a lot I think the MK goes far in giving the iPad a MacBook like experience. But, it is not IMHO a total laptop replacement. I've slowly come around to that realization. For my need the iPad and the MK work well enough.

Massive improvement in usability over the folio keyboard. Besides the obvious keyboard improvements and the addition of the trackpad, the viewing angles are greatly improved, and when placed in the "tablet" position the device is rock solid for taking notes on, and can also be used to gain a whole bunch of additional viewing angles in either orientation when on a video call or watching a movie.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention it, but the trackpad has been a pleasant surprise for me. I never cared about adding mouse or trackpad support to the iPad, but I enjoy it!

Granted I havent been out/about with my MK due to the shelter-in-place order, but I’ve had my MK (+12.9“ iPad Pro) about a month now and it’s has held up very well so far. The iPad Pro + MK is the ultimate combo. It’s a true laptop experience when you need it, and a best in class tablet when you don’t. Try it out for yourself and if you don’t like it, just return it.

I’ve been enjoying mine, but I won’t say it’s without fault, though I’m pretty certain it’s just slightly buggy software.

I’ve run into losing the cursor a few times and having to restart to get it back (not since the most recent OS beta however). I’ve also noticed today a strange problem with scrolling in certain applications. In Twitterific, sometimes two finger scrolling with the trackpad becomes lethargic or unresponsive. 3 finger switching is snappy as ever, so I’m fairly certain it’s a software bug, but I noticed it in another app as well.

That said, I would still highly recommend it, as it turns your iPad into a true laptop replacement. I give it like a 90/100, with the only real flaw aside from software glitches being the weight (but it’s so nice to pull your iPad away from the keyboard so 🤷‍♂️)

I’m becoming more convinced the the problems people are reporting with the MK are the latest east iOS version related. Even without the MK on my 2018 iPad Pro I’ve had touch screen issues, and failure to bring up the virtual keyboard when needed. Agsin with the current iOS.

Agree with Disraeli Gears... YES, we have also had bugs with our Magic Keyboard, and wondering if maybe we should return this to Apple for a replacement.

The SPACE BAR does not work at times... the cursor will hop to the start of a word or a phrase. And when the SPACE BAR key gets totally stuck, I cannot put spaces in between words. This generally occurs on sites like online shopping, when using the Search fields or the Chat function.

The “sticky factor” does not usually happen with iPad Notes or with email. But even with email it occasionally happens. As a quick solution, I enter an equal sign to separate the words.

If anyone else has problems with the Magic Keyboard SPACE bar, please post it here.

my trackpad of magickeyboard freezes intermittantly. replacement of magickeyboard also has not solved the issue
