You might have to use a different computer than your main iTunes computer to do this. I have to use my laptop to download and install OS updates, BUT I must say "no" to restoring from the laptop when asked. Then, I plug my iDevice into my main iTunes and restore from there.

For some reason, using my desktop (the main iTunes location) to install an OS update ALWAYS results in an error message. Yet, I have no problems using my laptop. Go figure.

Exact same problem I have since I tried to update from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1. My main iTunes pc refused to restore and upload 5.0.1. Kept giving me an error 21 code even when I forced into dfu mode.

The only solution for me now is to my upgrades via my MacBook pro which works every time. Once the restore is done then I sync from my PC and restore my saved backup.
