Hi,
I am rather new to the Mac world, but am an experienced PC user. This spring I purchased two Macs, a Macbook and an iMac. On both machines, I am unable to upload anything via Safari/http. I have tried in Flickr, Picasa, Youtube, MediaFire etc.. and in all applications on both Macs the upload stops at approx 2-3% or generally between 1 and 3mb uploaded and the computer hangs. I can force quit Safari and recover. On the same network, I can upload via my PC's with no problems whatsoever.

I am using Comcast cable, the Imac is plugged in directly to my wireless router, the macbook is wireless.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Let me know if you need more information. Thanks

hmmmm...

Sorry.. my bad.. its not just Safari, it is Picasa Uploader, Iphoto export to Flickr, Safari upload to Flickr or You Tube.. the only type of upload that will work is FTP.

Have you tried selecting Allow all incoming connections for Firewall in Security (in System Preferences)? I can't connect to my remote FTP unless I change to this option.

hmmmm...

No.. I haven't.. I didn't think of that I looked through Network settings etc.. but haven't played around with Macs yet to know where to look for some things, I am still a newbie.. great Idea.. I will try it tonight! Thank you!

One item to check is in the system preferences panel network settings and make sure the active connections are at the top. Click and drag the connection in the list to change it. Put your main internet connection at the top. If a connection is not being used deselect it.

hmmm.. nope :(

Ok.. checked both of those settings.. firewall and port settings and both were correct. :( Any more suggestions?

Sorry to hear neither of the suggested options worked.

Do you have Applecare? If so, give them a ring and be sure to let them know that it works fine on your PC, just not the iMac, otherwise they'll put the blame on Flickr.

I think I got it!

I was playing around tonight, having the same problems both with Flickr and with Picasa export in iphoto.. freezing after just a meg or two... I changed the connection on the ethernet port to manual configuration, and turned off ethernet flow control.. I just finished uploading 200 mb of pictures to both flickr and Picasa as a test.. who-hoo!!

Thanks everyone!
