using b&w 300, was installed with 9.1. but was having trouble using my paperport software. everytime I clicked on the menu bar, the finder would quit.

so I've beening trying to go back to 8.6 when I didn't have any problems. Maybe it's not an os problem but I don't have the knowledge.

when I finally got 8.6 loaded again I had the same results. after many hours of fiddling I think I narrow it down to being the hard disk driver. the only way I could install 8.6 was to select in the option box not to update hard disk driver, which I think means I'm running 8.6 with 9.1 hard disk driver.

I would like to get this computer going again because it's the only one I have that will run my paperport software with my visionner scanner.

any help is gladly welcome

Have you tried initializing the HD and installing Mac OS 8.6 and your paperport software from scratch?

Or maybe there are some updates for your sowftare?
Try looking over at http://www.versiontracker.com/macos/

can't boot from cd. when I try holding down the c key writing come on the screen and ask to type mac-boot. when I do that it boots from the installed os. if I type mac-boot and hold the c key a black screen with a mac icon comes up with writing under it.

the only way i've been able to load 8.5 is to start up and insert disk do clean install then uncheck box that say update apple hard disk driver.

software installs now my os is 8.5 instead of 9.1
