I have been using Yahoo Mail for more than a decade and it has accumulated a lot of mail messages. I archive messages older than 6 months using Yahoo Mail's web interface. However, I have had problems with getting new Yahoo mail messages reliably.

The symptom is that Apple/Mac Mail client would stop getting new messages after a day or two of uptime. If I quite the Mail app and start it again, it would get all the messages. Then it would stop again after a day or two. All my Mac computers, 2013 Mac Pro, 2019 13" MBP, and 2020 M1 MBP, have this problem.

Even my iPad's Mail app has this problem too. If I quit and restart the Mail app, it would work again as well. However, my iPhone 11's Mail app has no such problem. It always retrieves Yahoo mail messages reliably.

I have 4 email accounts on these devices: 1 Yahoo, 2 Google, and 1 Outlook online accounts. Only Yahoo account has problems with Apple Mail.

I the purchased 2019 Microsoft Office for Mac, Home and Business Edition, for my 2013 Mac Pro. It has Outlook app and I have been using it to get all my mails reliably. Isn't this odd?

Any suggestions on how to debug so that I can get Yahoo mail reliably on my two MBPs as well?

I am getting the same problem with Yahoo on my Macs and/or iOS devices.

It happens only occasionally and usually it resolves itself after a while (could be hours or even a day).
It is frustrating when emails are not downloading but you know they are there as you can see them from your other devices.

Sometimes to force the download I connect to Yahoo mail with Safari, and that usually will allow Apple mail to complete the download. This would seem to indicate that the problem has to do with authentication, however is it strange as an authentication problem would normally be flagged by Apple mail.

Not sure if this will be useful to you as it sidesteps the issue, but I noticed in the release notes of a recent Yahoo! Mail app update that it’s now also available for M1 Macs.

Maybe try completely deleting Yahoo from your Mac Mail app and re-installing it. Also, do you use 2FA login on your Yahoo account? I do, and have had problems in the past. A complete re-install seemed to be the solution that worked. With 2FA, you need an app password to allow mail apps to access your Yahoo account.

I've been using Yahoo for 22 years now. At this time, I have it synced to my M1 Air and iPhone SE with no problems.
