the mac technician here says 1.4 is slightly faulty and causes many crashes in XP :S :(

I don't use it with XP but with Vista, but I haven't noticed any crashes so far.

But Bootcamp 1.3 doesn't support the videocard in the new iMacs. So either use version 1.4, or try the drivers from the ATI website as suggested earlier.

As far as I know, these are the very same drivers as those provided in the various Boot Camp releases.

I use the standard ATI Windows XP drivers downloaded from their main downloads area. Now, these do not normally support 'OEM' variants of ATI cards as found in all laptops. This isn't an Apple-specific issue -- many laptop manufacturers require that you use drivers provided by them rather than the ATI packages.

However, there's a utility called the Mobility Modder which tweaks a standard ATI driver package to recognise OEM ATI chips such as those in Apple machines. I've had 100% success with this, letting me use the latest ATI drivers on my MacBook Pro without problem.

I have 1.4 on the new 20" iMac. Have not had any issues with the video card at all. Everything runs nice and smooth.

No crashes in XP, either. Running Professional, not Home. Not sure if that makes a difference, but Pro has always been pretty stable.

@displaced - As far as the drivers go, I have not been able to "unlock" the video card. I tried the driverheaven fix, and it still says it can't find the appropriate card, yada, yada, yada. Guess I will have to wait for Apple to support the card a little better, but I have not had issue one with XP since installing bootcamp.

Overall, very happy with the machine and setup. So much so, I just trashed my old windows gaming machine. Took the hard drives out of it and now have a network drive via the Airport that everyone on the network can use.
