Problems with Bootcamp

I've been trying to install windows on my mac for the past 3 days with no luck. At first it was giving me some hal.dll error. I reinstalled about 8 times and now it's saying disk error.

Am I supposed to be doing something special? I split the partition, I installed xp sp2 on the new partition, it gets to the point where it copies the xp files over, then it needs to restart, and I can never get past there.

Any tips? Thanks

did you print and follow the setup guide word for word. also when it restarts your not clicking boot from cdrom after the restart are you.

I recommend deleting the boot camp partition and starting from scratch again...be sure to print out the instructions and if you still run into problems it might be your windows cd (maybe scratched up)...

First is it a plain XP SP2 CD or is it something you got from an old prebuilt PC (I.E. HP, Dell, Compaq, etc...) that can give you a hal.dll error since the disk is stripped to look just for the hardware specific to that computer line.

Second, I have to "second" byakuya on the idea of making the disk a single partition and starting over like nothing happened. Then make sure there is no dust or scratches on the disk(it could be in just the wrong place on the disk)

Third I know you said SP2 in passing at the end but make sure it is a vanilla SP2 not edited in any way. SP2 has the (temp)drivers for PCI-Express vieo cards which will not be in the original version of XP. Which means something on your system is not on the HCL(hardware compatibility list) giving a hcl.dll error. MacPro users get this when trying to install anything less than SP2 on the machine since XP freaks out over some odd piece of hardware that it does not know how to use.
