I had a bunch of files on an external hard drive (a lacie). i deleted them off the external hard drive. when this happens - they get put into the trash. they're still sitting on the external hard drive, but are listed as being in the trash can.

when i try and empty the trash can i get the following error:

The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003).

my external hard drive is full of all these files that i can't delete off of it b/c i can't get past this error when emptying the trash.

any thoughts? thanks!!!

Mac Error Code 8003

Mac users receive Error Code 8003 when they try to empty the Trash. This folder doesn’t empty. It refuses to delete its contents. If you’re experiencing the same problem, so follow these tips to fix it:-

- Start Mac in the Safe Mode
- Execute Given Command with the Terminal
- Hold down “Option Key” while selecting Empty Trash Option
- Use the Shortcut Keys
- Check File Security Issues

I tend to resort to the terminal in these cases and sudo rm -rf on the folder inside .Trash in the root of the external drive.
